El acuerdo entre estas Nuevas Maravillas del Mundo, representa un compromiso real de cooperación internacional, intercambio de experiencias en turismo sustentable y promoción conjunta en los mercados globales, destacando valores comunes como la biodiversidad, la ancestralidad de los pueblos originarios y la identidad latinoamericana, entre otras cosas.

En un acto cargado de simbolismo, emoción y compromiso con el futuro, las ciudades de Puerto Iguazú (Argentina) y Machu Picchu (Perú) firmaron un acuerdo de hermanamiento institucional, turístico y cultural, uniendo formalmente dos de los destinos más emblemáticos y admirados del mundo: las Cataratas del Iguazú- una de las Nuevas 7 Maravillas de la Naturaleza, y Machu Picchu- una de las Nuevas 7 Maravillas del Mundo.

Con la presencia del gobernador de Misiones, Hugo Passalacqua, los intendentes Claudio Raúl Filippa (Puerto Iguazú) y Elvis La Torre Uñacori (Machu Picchu), el ministro de Turismo de Misiones José María Arrúa, el presidente del Iturem Leopoldo Lucas, y representantes del sector privado, cámaras empresariales y medios de prensa, el acto se llevó a cabo en un marco de profunda emoción y orgullo por este paso histórico para la región.

“Hermanar dos ciudades, dos pueblos, dos culturas, dos maravillas del mundo, es el primer paso de un camino muy largo. Ser testimonio del hermanamiento de dos íconos del mundo me emociona y me llena de orgullo”, expresó el gobernador Passalacqua durante su discurso.

 

Un encuentro entre dos Maravillas del Mundo

El hermanamiento entre Iguazú y Machu Picchu representa mucho más que un acuerdo simbólico: es un compromiso real de cooperación internacional, intercambio de experiencias en turismo sustentable y promoción conjunta en los mercados globales, destacando valores comunes como la biodiversidad, la ancestralidad de los pueblos originarios y la identidad latinoamericana.

Ambos destinos comparten el privilegio de estar entre los más reconocidos del planeta: las Cataratas del Iguazú, una de las Nuevas 7 Maravillas de la Naturaleza, y la ciudadela sagrada de Machu Picchu- una de las Nuevas 7 Maravillas del Mundo. Unidos ahora, se posicionan como referentes del turismo con propósito, donde el viaje es también una forma de honrar la tierra y sus memorias.

Con esta acción, se abre una agenda de trabajo conjunta que incluirá intercambios culturales, cooperación institucional, proyectos turísticos compartidos y participación en ferias internacionales, donde Iguazú y Machu Picchu se presentarán como destinos hermanos.

“Este hermanamiento no es solo un acto institucional: es un puente entre culturas, entre visiones del mundo que se complementan, se respetan y se fortalecen mutuamente”, sostuvo visiblemente emocionado el intendente de Puerto Iguazú- Claudio Filippa.

Durante el acto, se destacó el valor estratégico de esta alianza para el fortalecimiento del turismo como motor de desarrollo económico y social, no solo para ambas ciudades, sino para las regiones que representan: la provincia de Misiones y la región andina peruana.

El Ministro de Turismo, José María Arrúa, subrayó que este acuerdo se enmarca en una visión de turismo integrado, inclusivo y sostenible, donde los destinos se enriquecen al compartir saberes, herramientas y experiencias.

Por su parte, el alcalde de Machu Picchu- Elvis La Torre, celebró el recibimiento en suelo misionero y destacó la importancia de construir alianzas desde los pueblos y no solo desde las instituciones. “entre Argentina y Perú existe una sinergia natural: estamos trabajando con respeto hacia la naturaleza. Machu Picchu es un área protegida a nivel cultural y natural; aquí compartimos ese mismo principio, es como sentirse en casa”, mencionó.

El acto culminó con la firma del acta de hermanamiento y el intercambio de presentes institucionales, en un clima de fraternidad, acompañado por presentaciones culturales y muestras del arte guaraní y andino.

“Este hermanamiento es una herramienta para seguir posicionando a Iguazú en el mundo. Cada acción de este tipo fortalece nuestra presencia internacional, nos abre nuevas oportunidades de promoción y nos ayuda a atraer más turistas que, al llegar, generan movimiento y trabajo para nuestra comunidad.” concluyó el presidente del Iturem- Leopoldo Lucas.

De esta forma, desde las selvas misioneras hasta las montañas sagradas del Perú, hoy América Latina se abraza en una alianza que celebra la diversidad, protege el patrimonio y sueña con un futuro compartido.

 

Iguazu Falls and Machu Picchu seal a historic agreement that unites nature, culture and sister peoples

A meeting between two Wonders of the World

The twinning between Iguazú and Machupicchu represents much more than a symbolic agreement: it is a real commitment to international cooperation, exchange of experiences in sustainable tourism and joint promotion in global markets, highlighting common values such as biodiversity, the ancestry of the indigenous peoples and the Latin American identity.

Both destinations share the privilege of being among the most recognized on the planet: the Iguazú Falls, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, and the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. United now, they are positioned as references of tourism with purpose, where travel is also a way to honor the land and its memories.

With this action, a joint work agenda is opened that will include cultural exchanges, institutional cooperation, shared tourism projects and participation in international fairs, where Iguazú and Machupicchu will be presented as sister destinations.

«This twinning is not just an institutional act: it is a bridge between cultures, between worldviews that complement, respect and mutually strengthen each other,» said the mayor of Puerto Iguazú- Claudio Filippa, visibly moved.

During the event, the strategic value of this alliance for the strengthening of tourism as an engine of economic and social development was highlighted, not only for both cities, but for the regions they represent: the province of Misiones and the Peruvian Andean region.

The Minister of Tourism, José María Arrúa, stressed that this agreement is part of a vision of integrated, inclusive and sustainable tourism, where destinations are enriched by sharing knowledge, tools and experiences.

For his part, the mayor of Machupicchu- Elvis La Torre, celebrated the reception on missionary soil and highlighted the importance of building alliances from the peoples and not only from the institutions. «between Argentina and Peru there is a natural synergy: we are working with respect for nature. Machupicchu is a protected area on a cultural and natural level; here we share that same principle, it’s like feeling at home,» he said.

The event culminated with the signing of the twinning act and the exchange of institutional gifts, in a climate of fraternity, accompanied by cultural presentations and samples of Guarani and Andean art.

«This twinning is a tool to continue positioning Iguazú in the world. Each action of this type strengthens our international presence, opens up new opportunities for promotion and helps us attract more tourists who, upon arrival, generate movement and work for our community,» concluded the president of Iturem- Leopoldo Lucas.

In this way, from the missionary jungles to the sacred mountains of Peru, today Latin America embraces itself in an alliance that celebrates diversity, protects heritage and dreams of a shared future.
